The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
The Shadow of My Life

Shadows can move
Shadows can grow
Shadows jump high
Shadows jump low

They run or walk to
Follow their masters
And jump into place at
The sight of their casters

The sun and the moon
are their divine sources
The sun and the moon
can change their courses.

Light also controls a
Shadow's life
Light controls a
Shadow's fun or strife

Shadows bounce,
jump, and walk
Shadows can do almost
anything but talk

Shadows of life are
in one's heart
They can depress you or
Give you a fresh new start

Shadows in your soul are
like real shadows in a way
They're affected by light and
Are never there to stay

A shadow is a feeling,
A conscience, a guard
A shadow is the pain
That comes from life's hard

An inner feeling of
evil and bad
It makes you laugh, be happy
But sad

A shadow of dark
Roams in my soul
Creating a sad, depressing
Lonely hole

And that hole may be filled
With joy or strife
But what remains is
The Shadow of my Life
