The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
The Eclectic Metaphor

Too common are the witty
as are the earnestly innocent
who tell yet another colored story
and sing hymns as if a ditty were different
or sell you a new slogan tattooed ear to ear
oh dear what unanticipatible today is falling
sprawling across your sleep-ridden tenders
while you shiver from lack of cover
hovering between whims and redirections
the orientatings of morality tales
what smells fresh pastry prisons await
between the allegories and allusions
deft illusions make good delusions
enthrall the invited the chosen the few
huddling masses of the unexcoriated
so ripe to harvest in the tonnage of vats
great melting pots of the drossy impure
rats and vermin whose cuteness is
hidden under hoods and carefully tagged and
released until they be decreased I mean deceased
but quiet behold the shelter of elders
unquivering in the truculence we could never muster
unclustered from our kin we crave a tribe
imbibe the verve and ride the vibe
to learn the eclectic metaphor and decide
our allegiance between the door and dinner table
fabled play of masks and mimicry good salt
of the earth harbingers of what we have seen
coming swarming draining like a dragon
sated and slumbering upon her hearthy hoard
while little boys are left with wooden swords
and meteors descend on our inflammable cardstacks
of bible verses and organ chords.
