The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Solar Stare

Vanquish the foe to climb a brighter castle
step before step from the dungeon of doldrums
ascend above the clouds where the atmosphere
falls away and eddies between valleys
forget the meadhall boasts of taller days
and the dreams that filled crossed thresholds
let those beneath read the bloody lintel
and embrace the soar of corpse pickers.

Upon this peak acrossed by winding roads
one discerns no path for the sojourner
who bows to the north where auroras dream
and bows to the west where goldstrike gleams
he bows to the southern underworld
and smiles at the moon in slumber curled
but it is with arms thrown wider than
death's maw and the siren nod
that vitreous humor joins the hydrogen eye
in the eternal dawn of the charming eclipse
tracing the orbit of the greatest ellipse
the galactic swallowed with an eyeroll
at its piquancy washed down with a final
immolation from which one may rise
like a lucifer falling, an eternal flame
to commemorate fallen hero song
and dream with ashen phoenix tears
of the stolen enchantress' scythe.
