The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Beneath Death

Let us dive beneath
the worried waves
to the Atlantis that
once glittered in the
sun of new love.

Whose diamond sand shores
supported our dreams
written with muddy strokes
in the shallows above the
sharp-shelled ocean shelf.

It's only a breath we hold
to pierce beneath the swells,
hand in hand, diving down,
into that azure vista of
tropical waters.

Light leaves us as we descend
into the quiet leagues that
lay beneath and beyond
those familiar sunlit spires
that sparkle in memory.

Warm eddies flow in the darkness
as we sink effortlessly and
without care, beneath to where
the sun wanes to a moonlight
and coolness fills the mind.

The sky now is a thousand stars
of bioluminescence, whose soft
glow reflects in the shimmer of
your hair, the silver chain on
your neck, and in your open eyes.

I breath from your lips
the sweet air of your consciousness
of me until my lungs are full and
sated with the songs of love
you breathe into me.

I touch the smoothness of your
arm, soaked in this moment's mystery,
as each hair dances in the slow
tide of that upstream of the day's
forgotten gravity.

We turn in the eternal stream,
like planets caught in each other's pull
spiralling as we touch,
surrounded by the crystal spheres
of celestial song - silent and perfect.

This is our moment of heaven,
how I dream it will always be,
in the days after,
when our naked toes dance on green fields
together, and I lay down in your eyes,
plucking flowers from soft earth,
singing softly in the warmth of a sleepy
breeze, and resting eternally with you.
