The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Halcyon Sunrise

Your love slayed me amidst the sundering torrent's waves.
Crash upon the crevassing, tempestuous fury, You came!
Hail and flurry, surge and rumble, till trembling shook the sea,
farther to foment the waves and worry pushed the wind
in time beyond the confines of my torturous trek.

So came You despite the dare of my drowning,
Down into the depths beneath the doldrum silence
I sank and surrendered my long and illusory pursuit

of death.

For breath I gasped, in garbled thought I awoke.
Where am I? in a fleeting glimpse I was stirred...
spots of brief remembrance tease me like gentle rain
as if...a calm presence watches over me.

Warm earth beneath me opens my eyes upward
as a stream of sensuous sunlight forms in me
the image of my re-creation. Where are You, Oh Darkness?
I am lost...these words punctuating my mind as I look
around from the newly searching emotions within me.

Then, over the mountainous welter behind me
glimmers a solitary beam, now becoming brighter
Now bigger, casting new forms like shadows within me
So gently in me, oh You Resplendence, come!
Shine within me, oh Source of Radiance, bring
sweet peace to this sacred shore.

Oh Surety, all glory to You! All praise to You, Oh Trinity!
You are my day and my night, my shore and my sinking,
I love you, whom I have known from my birth,
before, then during my desperation!

You precede me in every direction,
You go before my every move, and
so I sing of You, my Halcyon Sunrise,
who shines ever new in each moment
like the gentlest celestial flame
to quench the ocean of my hopeless doubt.
