The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Accessing Engrams of Innocence

I know that you know
but what impresses upon me
is the uninhibited innocence
of mirroring as if you could be distracted
gowned in albumen without shell
glistening with an unoxidized membrane
that catches the rays of the moon
as you drift by weightlessly unattracted

No balky jerk of hackled ghost neurons
flushing with post-oxytocin deja vu
just the tohu v'vohu unencumbered
pre-slumbering and at porous play
mouthing the ungummed proximus
into a cascade 'cross the untustled
trichomic array that sifts the
banana chunks from the pineapple fray

It was that first unblemished flower
that poured color like nectar drops
upon silvered plate isinglass densa
convening the cones to unsepal the hovering
of an uncherished altar of anther dust
over a whorl of a crushed velvet corolla
embroidered in glyphs of ultraviolet
capturing the blink of a mind undiscovering

Shall I then gaze upon your tired eyes
bezeled in a familiarly rumpled countenance
our foci meeting in a rising resonance of
borrowed understanding once again blooming
into a compassionate cognizance deeply shared
and that final acceptance of how utterly
ridiculous it all was until our gravities
trapped the humility of being unassuming

We overlap our tear-soaked ripplings
with umber coffee cup smiling groans
and gum our daily bread into cucumber
sandwiches with that touch of dill
mustard I seem to remember that you adore
our teeth cracking against the hell-frozen
gale that tatters our veteran pride
yet our hearts still unfurl to the world so wide.
