The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
The Teleology of Nucleations

For a hundred years or less
we collect oceanic snows in
our tentacled filter feeding,
delectable silts amid the sands,
leaving growth-stained limbs
flailing amidst our nebulae
pickling our waters with salted
heavy metals and glassy concretions
huddling our clutch of pearlescent
scars and asundry ambergrits
eventually squid lose interest
and sharks avoid our aldehydes
until we are as alone as a
newborn soul returning to the
distillations of glacial riverbeds
and as we sink below the bathyspheric
like some elder dander of our breed
we expire into a nucleation
cascading through the chill abyss
beyond the reach of sublimations
timeless Lemurians of the deep
finally given to our constellation
we take the shape our nature knew
strange cleavages fusing into grain
the dendritic doped with lost tears
and remembrances of loving bliss
last glimmer of beloved sapphire eyes
final step across the Bifrost ridge
the Medusan reaper tolls the timeless
calculus of the chrysalis
and leaves the winged to away.
