The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Starburst

Gutpunched a bloody firework of the unexpected
spatters cave walls in frenetic murals of the hunted
to feign the master of all rather than the fool's none
Any left unbowing are undoubtedly bandy-legged
from riding our daily beast into the kingdom
to slay the flames of dragon windmills and
gorge on the meats of one-eyed giants
only to find our shame still clinging to a fig tree

I am but a ganglion of receptors
calibrating to the scull tapping on the riverflow
a cowering coxswain can't read these charybdian rapids
Plummeting past points of portage
stick insect clings to his leaf
awash in the cavitations of the keelhauled
waiting for the shore to reveal my bonny blue eyed pleasers
only to find the broken ossifications of some ol' geezer
