The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Jay Kelly

Teach me Jay
to love others
You are so much more than I
and I feel so little

Teach me humility
For I am undeserving of praise
Why do I exalt myself?
Correct me

You were sweet in
the Lover's eye
I long to be so favored

Teach me to see with Love
those around me
to desire to be their friend
to delight in their joys

Teach me to be real
Present to so many
Not aloof or separated
but naturally a friend.

Oh that I might
love as dead
those I have befriended
and seek to
befriend every person,
for the richness of life
is friendship and
you were so rich.

Teach me to be patient
for others
Virtuous not for merit, but
for the love of others.

I am young too, at this moment
help me now to be born anew
that I might be so adorned with
gems as you are,
and realize how much more than
gems are my friends to me.
