The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Thudites

It fell with a thud, and thusly he ended.
He looked up and saw an eclipse, then it fell with a thud
He left the house to tend the field, then he looked up
He woke by the cock and yawned, then he left the house
He went to bed and dreamed sweet dreams, then he woke by the cock
and left the house, looked up, and with a thud, thusly he ended.

What if it passed him by, and thusly his Monday ended.
Or it struck the neighbor boy, then it passed him by
Or it flattened the village, then struck the neighbor boy
Or struck the moon into a falling orbit, then flattened the village
Or ignited in the sun, then struck the moon and flattened the village,
and struck the neighbor boy and passed him by, and thusly his Monday ended.

Whether king or pauper, astronomer or farmer, we know not what we see
until it falls with a thud and thusly we are ended.
