The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
The Direction of Birds

Letters rain into eyes
Turning serifs into syllables
Soliloquy into storyline
Words like seeds erupt into beanstalks
Characters like golems morph from the ground.

Stalks turn to trees
bear blossom into pear
brook whirlwinds of whispers
turn tales into truths
plotting our own evolution.

Ivy entangles the litheness of gravity
Radically roots from rocky furrows
Climbs into weightlessness
Caresses leaf into feather
And blooms into birds of paradise.

Lean the lesson of learning
All birds are heavensbound
Big bangs of alighting take flight
Beckon us to embark
Beyond the mountaintop.
