The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
I Stand a Man

I ascended from my shallow, dark retreat
to a better place where happiness is real
and there is dimension to word and thought.

I descended into the depths of creation's wilderness
striking down the tenacious obstacles of my youth
fording ever deeper beyond myself.

I ventured out beyond the horizons of my imagination
to embrace the pleasant amazement of every new dawn
out beyond the safe shores I once knew.

I tunneled into a new cavernous openness, that at
first sucked out the air from my lungs from the
decompression of my emptiness but only a moment later
became a new and gentle atmosphere, a new womb
in which, out of which, and through which, I mature.

You were behind every wall, beneath every floor,
and above the highest heavens of my feeble dreams.

You came to me, waited for me, worked with me
striking a new rhythm and singing forth a new song.

You enchant me, I feel welcomed,
You smile on me, I feel your warmth,
You grow me, I feel new strength,
You call me forth, and I
stand a man in love with You.
