The Poetry of Mark Daniel Milbocker
Portals

To circumambulate the endless curve
and watch the crank flap my automaton wings
to look down on the zoetropic
and look up at my lover's warm smile

To sob in the mirror of my lover's decline
his hardened form yields to a chronic wind
to look down on the blush of youth
and look up at my lost legacy

To prance among friends and fall deaf
to their indulgent banter blind to glee
to look down on the economic
and look up at my ascetic plee

To lay me down to sleep and
forget to pray for another day
to look down on my weariness
and look up to the fade of twilight

To blaze with transfiguration and
strike my sisters speechless
to look up at the fateful fabric
and reach down to suckle the flea
